GAZE INTO ABYSS
“if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you,” says Nietzsche.
That one and only moment when the subject and the object, the observer and the observed, change places and become inherent in each other.
But what if what one 'observes' is oneself?
Gaze into Abyss is an interactive installation that asks people to look into their eyes until they become alienated from the moment and themselves.
Various chemical compounds are applied to a glass, following an ancient mirror-making process. A mirror is created in the middle part of the glass using different application rates and techniques. Hence, each piece has its own unique form.
